Hearts and diamonds are red, and clubs and spades are black.
I know this because I used to be a pinochle player, and a pinochle consists
of a jack of diamonds, which is red, and a queen of spades, which is black.
When sorting my suits, I arranged them alternating colors, red black, red
black.
By the way, the order of a pinochle deck is different. Only the cards 9
through ace are used, and there are 2 of each card in the 48-card deck. But
the order is this from low to high: 9, jack, queen, king, 10, ace.
