Hi Josh.
About colours, hearts and diamonds are red, spades and clubs are black,
this only tends to matter in a couple of games though like euchre and
clondike solitare, usually in most games you can just take the four suits
just as divisions.
Also, the card order can vary, sinse in some games the ace counts as 1 and
goes before the 2, in others it counts as eleven and goes after the ten, and
in still others it counts higher than the king, it all depends upon the
rules of the game.
Amusingly enough, this is why in Tim Powers' post neuclear appocalypse
novel Dinner at devients palace, he imagines the rulers of a future Los
angeles calling themselves "aces" on the basis that they can't be either
kings or jokers :D.
