Hi Tom.
Well, it depends upon the game and the function of what is in question.
Shades is mostly an action game with a horror atmosphere, and as I said the
scientist strikes me as a big more of a joke anyway so it doesn't really
matter. On the other hand, a more serious gamebook like Zombie exodus from
choiceofgames or or dead man walking on chooseyourstory has similar
traumatized characters in a horrific setting and asks you to make more
serious decisions about them.
zombie exodus is particularly good for this sinse you have a "humanity vs
brutality" stat, (working on a percentage like most choiceofgames stats),
and if your one way or the other there will be further consequences, though
interestingly enough, the author of zombie exodus and I seemed to disagree
on interpretation of actions, for example I would view shooting someone in
the head who has already been bitten and is swiftly turning into a zombie,
and actually is asking you to kill them as a humanitarian act, where as the
author of the game disagreed (I was quite irritated that my brutality went
up for that one).
Still, this does illustrate the point that you can do something about moral
choice in a game, albeit probably not in an action game like Shades, and for
shades it's far more fun just to moe down the nasties :D.
Beware the grue!
Dark.
