Many of the free games on mobile platforms either have limited functionality or they have ads. It's a great way to try before you buy.
To me, the ads are infuriating, so I get rid of them as soon as possible, either by deleting the game or buying it. In my opinion, paid games for mobile devices are a fraction of the cost of computer games, so I don't mind paying for them here and there. I used to buy one game every two years or so when I had a computer, and now I buy half a dozen in a year.
