What Charlese means is that basically when you use an Ios device everything!
has to go through apple ad through your id. Any ap you want to use uses it,
if you use the phone that uses it, I don't even believe you can use the mail
service on an Ios device without first having an apple id, it's a basic part
of the setup.
This is just how Apple works. The bennifit is that as charlse says it avoids
piracy and makes it relatively easy once you have an Id to quickly find,
download and access games etc, (plus it makes lots of money for apple in the
process as main distributer).
The problem is, as you see it's not particularly free to let you have the
complete choice as you do on Windows, indeed one reason why I do not use
Itunes sinse I hate the organization restrictions and lack of compatibility
with standard files and folders.
However to get any good out of the machine at all you really need an apple
id, even if you have no credit card or other payment information attached to
it and just access free content.
I'd suggest your best bet is to simply discuss this with your school or
whoever has given you the device, sinse without an id there really isn't
much good it can do you, even in terms of basically practical stuff.
Beware the grue!
