Hi Lori.
The beeps are like a pattern.
So you might get a second or so, then have to wait for a beep, then a bit
more silence then another beep, you have to time pretty exactly.
Sorry I am probably not explaining this particularly well. I will admit they
take practice, but arerelatively okay once you get the knack.

pressing my alt key, but it just beeps again and tells me I can do better

Hi,
You're supposed to wait for a beep upon which you immediately press the
key for the dragon strike scroll which by default is the alt key. In the
settings menu you can change which key shoudl be pressed during dragon
strike attacks. So, in other words, you're not supposed to press the
dragon strike key immediately, but rather wait for the beeping sounds and
then try to get the rhythm of the beeps so you can match your key presses
with the beeps.
The tutorial has to be played through for every new game, however, when
you save the game and then restore it later, you will be taken to the
point where you left off, rather than going through the tutorial.
