hi Dark,

I usually modify the following options.

enable Always show icons, never thumbnails
disable Display file icon on thumbnail
disable Show preview handlers in preview pane
additionally, try disabling the preview pane of windows explorer from the view menu. If this didn't help, run windows update and get all security and nonsecurity updates.
Hope that helped

Hi Enes.

You won't believe! how much aggravation this is causing my wife.
If you could let me know which option precisele to do with thumbnales to turn off that would be helpful, since I thought I turned all icson options off already, and it would be a handy fix, we've even had dolphin error check super nova remotely and found no problem, again, this drives my wife up the wall, and I thought it was windows 7 being crappy.

All the best,

Dark.

hi dark,

Unfortunatly, I also experienced the issue you experienced with explorer freezing when I was using 7. The solution is simple actually. This issue is caused by thumbnails. To resolve this, navigate to control panel/folder options and move to the view tab. Then uncheck anything related to thumbnails and click ok. Also, a thing to note is that this issue is completely resolved in later versions of windows.

Hi lori.

That's not the problem, or at least not the direct problem.
My wife likes desktop shortcuts to everything so I've set them up to her, even for things like favourites. However sometimes folders open and just plane don't display correctly, especially when they're very large directories.

I don't know if baloons or other crap is opening, and I've tried to change what views I can, but it's not helping. That's aside from problems with email, partially completed downloads and all sorts of other rubbish, and her first machine literally breaking down after a year (though in fairness that might have been a hardware problem since the machine was from a rather dodgy source).

Either way, I really! am not impressed with windows 7 and would much rather stick with xp.

All the best,

Dark.

Dark, in windows 7 the one thing to note is hitting windows key brings up a search box from where you type downloads, or whatever you're looking for, like internet, and it'll come up. That's how I use it rather than going through the start menu. I'm using windows live mail client which works to a point, but has those stupid ribbon menus meaning i can't find my address book for contacts.

Actually I've setup my wife's machine with windows 7, and have had to do a
lot of configuration, and have had nothing but problems, the os seems
intrinsically flawed to me in it's view, it's display, not to mention
needlessly complex in many areas (why the hell we don't have outlook express
anymore and what the hell is going on with downloads).

Since finally! we're getting to the point that xp is becoming mildly
inconvenient to use with things like youtube I do plan to get a windows 10 machine later this year when I've finished my doctorate since I'll need office 2003 until then, (I don't like the idea but we must all bow to the wishes of almighty microsoft and it can't be worse than what I've observed of win 7), however I still would much prefer to use xp, and would be happier if programs like bgt could support it since I do plan to keep my xp laptop
running for other stuff and I do know I'm not the only person in this
position.

Everyone is free to say "microsoft! doesn't support xp" without considering whether we! should support microsoft, indeed it irritates me that I'm being
forced to accept something I don't want just because some fat cat
coorporation wants more money and finds it easier to break something which has worked perfectly well for 17 years including all copatibility than to
actually make something that is practically any better.

All the best,

DArk.

For all those posting about the Windows XP bug, my main question is,
why in the world are you still running XP? I grant you that it was a
great operating system for several years. But so is Windows 7.
You're not losing any stability by upgrading your system. Add to that
the fact that Microsoft has discontinued all support for XP, and you
have yet another reason to upgrade. If you have programs that will
only run on XP, then use the compatibility tool in Windows to run
those specific programs in XP mode. I can guarantee you, without a
doubt, that these games do work on Windows 7, as well as 8.1. I am
not suggesting that you need to go all the way to Windows 10. And I
myself do not like the layout of Windows 8. Great operating system in
terms of security and stability, but layout and some accessibility
issues are a huge turn off for me. But there is not a thing wrong
with Windows 7, and I see nothing but benefits to upgrading.

There's actually been no announcements on this issue in numerous months. Its something to do with the form of bgt being used, but other than that we

know nothing.
I'm kind of sad actually so little progress has been made on this;
especially since it affects so much of the customer base.

Hi.

A shame that annoying xp bug isn't fixed. I've not been able to play any of Vgstorms games since psycho strike, it's a shame, this one sounds great,
and Aaron did say he'd look at fixingthe bug but it's not happened.

All the best,

dark.
