You do not need to have read the books to appreciate the game, although fans of the series will possibly appreciate it more. I haven't read the user's guide in a while, but I think that it, as well as the info about the game that is on the site, that you explore the castle, and that the game is based on the Harry Potter series. As for puzzles, that's part of the fun of the game. -- God loves everyone, but probably prefers "fruits of the spirit" over "religious nuts!"
