If you want your stuff to work anywhere but Windows, then Java is a good 
choice.

I've been coding games in Java since 1997 and it's easy to learn.
There are  a lot of good books and Web support for it.

There's also good support at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
It's a whole lot easier than C++, as anyone whose done both can attest.

C# was derived from Java, so they're very similar.

The big advantage of .NET or Visual Basic for your purposes is that you 
have a good group of folks here who are using those technologies and can 
answer your questions.
