Hi Thomas,

Actually I don't have a problem with the AT&T voices dictionaries. The problem
is just like different synthesizers the different sapi5 voices pronounce words
differently especially names, Email addresses and other non standard words. I
have also found over 250 different acronyms that one or more of my 22 sapi5
voices know. But there is not one single acronym that all of the voices know.
This includes AT&T, Cepstral, Microsoft, Neo Speech and Scan Soft. Plus
different ones will say different things for the same acronym. I discovered
this while writing games and the game would speak and I would be like what the
heck did that just say? I like that AT&T Crystal knows such acronyms as LOL,
BTW, IMHO, a bunch of the states abbreviations etc etc. So but now I often
misspell or use the wrong spelling of words in my games, such as
Do you wish to reed the instructions?
so that none of the voices say
Do you wish to red the instructions?
But like I said it is not just the different sapi5 voices, but the different
synthesizers that I have had. You know like the Echo, Accent SA, Double Talk,
Triple Talk, Eloquence and Dec Talk 32. Once I was reading messages in a
FidoNet echo and these ladies were talking about crocheting eating all day.
With the way that the Accent pronounced that word I about fell out of my chair.
I had to check the spelling to figure out what they were talking about. I
think that it is funny that the Microsoft voices say crows nest for a similar
word. But it is not even just synthesizers. Was once playing a computer game
of Jeopardy and the lady that was reading the screen read the question as "What
is an orange gutten?" After thinking I said, would you believe that is
orangutan? So you know I think that it is more the English language and
spelling of words that is the problem. <grin>

Hi Jim,
That seams to be the major problem with AT&T voices. Since they are
recorded voice samples rather than sinthesised they are unable to
correctly speak words that is outside there dictionary. That is why I
mainly stick to voices like Scansoft which sound good and have a higher
chanse of properlyspeaking unusual words.

I think that my hoe is out in the garden.
