Hi Nicol, You are trying to do many things that were not programmed in the game. spoiler space I do not know why you lost all your magical energy. The only thing that does that is the dementor. Were you playing the game with the hard difficulty setting? The egg is the only way to get into the lake and grab the new magical items there.
The egg in the toilet is only there if you do not get the egg from the dragon. If you have the egg from the dragon the toilet egg is removed. You can not use a spell on Peeves after you listen to the egg in the pool as it is not really Peeves but only his item stealing function. I planned you to get into the lake once and did not think someone would want to go in again. Once you have gotten all your magical items out of the lake, going into the lake again would be a waste of time since peeves would steel all your stuff again.
