HI ari
I'm going to answer your question out of my personal opinion. Phil might
have answered you, I haven't read through the whole thread.
Like others have said in the past, a basic understanding of harry potter is
needed to enjoy it the more.
The sarah game doesn't cover advanced things in the books such as death
eaters.
People that have not read the books, might experience the puzzles more
tricky, but the game shouldn't be impossible to beat for those who have not
read the books.
However, I feel very strong about it that the manual should inform people
that the sarah game is based on the harry potter books. while reading the
manual the sarah game sounded to me like an adult pack man game.
Also while playing the demo, I also got the impression its similar to pack
man.
Phil was very unhappy when I called the sarah game an adult version of pack
man, I intend nothing bad by sayhing so.
Let me quote the first passage of the sarah manual:
Sarah and the Castle of Witchcraft and Wizardry has simple game play, You're
Sarah running from ghosts and other creatures, picking up spells, objects
and serendipitously placed coins. When you encounter ghosts and creatures,
you can use your wand to scare or stun them for a short time, and if you get
trapped you can always apparate, or teleport away. If you get caught, you
lose magical energy.
When you pick up enough objects, and figure out how to get to the other
floors, you can go where the beasties get faster, smarter and harder to
scare.
If you lose all your magical energy, the game is over
Sarah and the Castle of Witchcraft and Wizardry is a live First Person
Shooter action game using sound as it's main medium.
I repeat that first sentence again, sarah and the castle of witchcraft and
wizardry has simple game play.
Later chapters in the game is contradicting this introductory passage of the
manual.
A puzzle such as the frog piece puzzle is a clear evidence that the sarah
game is advanced game play.
What about the tarid card deck puzzle, that's advanced theory included in
the game.
Phil made the mistake of saying sarah is an arcade game and that's one of
the reasons why I bought the game, all right phil has later corrected it
by saying it's a first person shooter game. Never in the manual did it say
that the game is based on harry potter and that one will enjoy the game
better if one have an understanding of harry potter.
The only occurrence of the words harry potter in the manual is where it
says:
All proper names from the Harry potter book series are trademarks of Joanne
Kathleen Rowling and the Time Warner
Entertainment Company, L.P.
Phil already privately responded to me by sayhing: if he say in the
manual that the game is based on harry potter, he would have landed in hot
water.
I don't agree with this, phil would have only landed in hot water if the
game was exactly like harry potter, if he included harry and his friends
and all the other teachers in the game.
So what I intend if I say: the manual makes sarah look like an adult pack
man game.
I was under the impression that game play is similar to pack man talks,
instead of eating up dots, the character picks up money and magical items.
The character is not a round circle with a mouth, but a teenage girl.
The playing area is not a maze with blocks but a castle.
So to me the manual sounds misleading, if I was aware from square1 that it's
a harry potter game, I would have rather buy another game and first read the
harry potter books and then buy the game. But the manual gave the impression
that the sarah game has nothing to do with harry potter, its simply a game
where the character scare away ghosts and pick up items.
That's how I feel about sarah.

Subject: [Audyssey] Sarah Question

Hi all,
I don't really enjoy fantasy, so have never read Harry Potter. My question
is, I want to play Sarah, because even though I don't enjoy fantasy, I want
to try something new like this, but how necessary is it to have read Harry
Potter books?
Thanks
Ari
