Hi Shaun, The difference here is said remixes of songs ore remakes of songs are done with the copyright holders permission in most cases. That doesn't apply if you are a garage band and go around to fairs, night clubs, etc playing music. That falls under the fair use, but you can't exactly cut a recording of your favorite hits and sell it without the copyright holders permission.
