Reminds me personally of that old NES game R.C. Pro A Racing. Granted the first one was fairly simple in that all you really got were missiles and some speed boosters, oh and a new car if you managed to collect all the letters and spell Nintendo. But I believe the sequel was more involved and you could actually earn oney and buy new upgrades and weapons.
