I think it's like many names, a matter of personal choice. Mathew can have one or two t's, steven can have a V or ph, Jamy can be y or ie, liz can have multiplicity of z's, ---- and there seem to be about a million ways of spelling lynne.
I'm really glad that neither my online handle nor my actual name are subject to spelling confusion, it makes things so much easier. Beware the Grue!
