Add to that the fact that some creatures are actually immune to non-magical weapons, the Vorun-Thul started that but now almost every spirit in the game, as well as some demons and elements are completely immune to non-magical weaponry, and yeah, you'll definitely want to keep your weapons around. There are also some magic resistant enemies around as well, such as the silverclaw trolls in the proving grounds and the demonis who attempts to steal Tsal-Toalth from you, some resistant almost to the point of immunity, so its good to strike a balance between weaponry and powers. Powers definitely have their uses as well, for example, using restoration after combat to heal up after a particularly gruelling battle.
