Realistic and random aren't necessarily the same thing there ron.

For instance, in reality! if you were exploring an underground dungeon you'd do far more walking around finding nothing at all than batling monsters, finding treasure etc, simply because even if we imagine a world with monsters and treasure filled dungeons, they wouldn't occupy all that! much space.

Look at moria in lotr, nearly four days of walking with only a couple of fairly miner jumpable cracks, no wandering monsters, only one ancient scroll and wrelick side and all the enemies are at the end with the one big boss! :D.

Good in a book, but not necessarily in a game.
