The link between loot and killed zombies has been a persistent rumor for quite a while now. Many believe that killing zombies will generate lootable corpses in the same spot after some unknown amount of time. In reality, corpses and zombies are completely separate.
Both use the same spawning method, but they are independent. Each time a zombie is killed, a new one is spawned somewhere randomly that is some minimum distance from any current players. Each time someone picks up loot, a new one is spawned randomly with the same rule. This system encourages players to explore because the less traveled places will slowly accumulate uncollected loot. Zombies slowly wander and are also pulled toward players and sounds so they don't collect in exactly the same way, but if an area has been left alone for long enough, zombies will begin collecting there as well. This is why we sometimes find large piles of loot seemingly guarded by big groups of zombies. This coincidence might be at the root of the rumor. I hope this helps clarify things. :) > Have we verified that loot corpses > have anything to do with dead zombies? > I'm not sure that's anything but an urban legend. > Jeremy? > > Christopher Bartlett --- Gamers mailing list __ [email protected] If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [email protected].
