HI.

I certainly can explain spam, sinse getting rid of it is part of my job on audiogames.net.

Spam essentially are automated messages generated by bot programs intended to advertize stuff and get people to click on very dodgy links that lead to sites ful of spyware and viruses.

Spam messages are always from new members, because the automated bot programs need to register a new account, and usually come in one of two forms.

1: Streight out adverts for enlargement of certain body parts, illegal medicines, escort agencies, or occasionally other things like home insurance (though usually spam adverts are always dodgy).

2: Messages containing dodgy links that pretend to be from a normal member of the community who has just joined, but have nothing to do with games, or the topic under discussion.

messages such as "I agree with your statement absolutely, your post expresses this point very well" followed by a bad link, or

"Hello, I have not learnt much about business before I saw your post, thank you for the information" again, followed by a dodgy site link.

The key thing, is spam is always from new members of a community, always looks as if it's created by an automated bot program that has nothing to do with audio games or indeed any topic under discussion, and always! contains links to their spyware sites (it the links that are the purpose of spambots).

So, I think it's pretty obvious that posts from a known source like Draconis, or indeed anyone else that are relevant to a discussion, related to audio games, and don't! try to fil your computer with addware are not spam.

Hope this explanation makes sense.

Beware the grue!

Dark.

Some people are thinking that some of the messages to the list are spam.
These messages are not spam. Can some educated soul, educated being the key
word here, explain spam to get the record straight? Thanks.

Hi Shaun,
The dragon only opened one eye.
You got to give it time to wake up!
It is not spam.

hmmm, I have not been sure weather to respond or not, the site says
or said this morning 2009, I was expecting an announcement that
something was coming.
For all that it it is, it could be spam for all I know or care, they
are back, so what.
Maybe they changed a copywrite line somewhere, I could do that easily.
I could change a copywrite line every year and do nothing and say I am
online.
I don't wish to be rood but josh has not written on here for ages,
and until he does this may as well be spam, for all the good it does.
