I would suggest that you do not raise the footsteps of the zombies past 
100%. If you do,  it will throw you totally off especially once and if you 
remember to lower it later. Otherwise you will be thinking the zombie is 
closer than it really is.

but lowering yours and others footsteps can be helpful. But don't lower 
yours too much. I have lowered it too much, only to run into something and 
it stopped me. Yet I thought I was still running. I keep my footsteps about 
80% and others about 50%. I like to know if someone is really close to me.

For now, get pretty close before shooting. This way you are narrowing down 
the angle of the target, and within range of it.

Also be sure to read the 2 weapon files in the swamp directory. This will 
give you an idea of damage, range, and capabilities of each weapon. And you 
may want to practice on the custom maps a bit to get a feel for each weapon. 
There you can shoot and die with no regrets, nothing lost.
