I would personally recommend looking on baf's guide to the if archive at
http://www.wurb.com/if/
It has the same games, but you can search by genre, author, platform etc,
and also read many reviews of games that spag and other if web magazines
have written.
I'd also recommend that if you find a game by an author you like, try
looking for other stuff by that author.
I for instance enjoyed Paul O'brian's wearing the claw, and went on to try
his various other games which i also liked.

Yes, there are lots of good interactive fiction games. There are
really too many to list which is why I haven't really come forward and
offered up any titles. Your best bet is to go to
http://www.ifarchive.org
and have a look around. The Infocom games were the original games that
opened up the interactive fiction genre, but there are certainly more
good games than that to play.
