Hi Tom.

well while most sports are! played in british schools and universities, i don't think they're played to the same level, indeed even my good! secondary school never really competed against other schools, and though some do, this is very area specific.

Even at university level, sports don't recieve national media coverage or attention, and it's only specifically national or international team matches that will be covered by media, ---- and even then, only specific! media sinse there are radio stations and tv stations devoted to sport and have been here sinse the mid 70's (bbc2 and radio 5 were both setup partially for that purpose), on other channels or radio stations the most you will get is a short five minute run down of any national or international matches.

In one sense I think I would find the american system a bit more irritating, sinse for someone like myself who is not the least interested in sport, it would be a bit annoying to have it forced on me even in normal tv programs. This is also why it's a little more acceptable in the uk, at least among people with brains not to have an interest in sport even for a man than perhaps it could be in the states, though unfortunately we are picking up the hole jock/nerd devide a bit more these days which is quite bad sinse suc sterriotypes aren't really good (and are often inaccurate. one friend of mine loves scifi, computer games, existential philosophy, weerd experimental metal and! is a big crickit fan, while my brother often has his anime friends around to watch wwe events despite the fact that they're all anime, rp, and ccg fans.

But this discussion is going rather ot so I'd better stop.

Beware the grue!

Dark.
