How about this scenario: A sighted gamer is looking for a game for someone
who is blind. They want to give it as a present. They fond a web site that
lists audio games and find unconventional and confusing categories. What
will they think? They find another site that lists games under categories
they are used to seeing. What will they think? This is why conventional
categories should be used. Although this happens all to infrequently, it
does leave an impression that is spread.

Hi Charles,
Not only that, but if we want mainstream gamers and game developers
to take us seriously I feel we collectively need to treat gaming in a
semiprofessional way. While calling Dark Destroyer, Troopenum, and
Judgment Day Space Invader games might get the point across those
games would all be classified as Fixed Shooters by mainstream gamers.
Why not just call them Fixed Shooters since they don't all have a
Space Invader type theme?
I don't know why, but something about creating our own categories just
rubs me the wrong way for some reason. Not only does it strike me as
slightly unprofessional it just seems to me like another case of the
blind being exclusive again. Instead of trying to meet the mainstream
gamers on their terms we go off and do our own thing, create our own
categories and terminology, just because we are different and we make
that difference known by intentionally ignoring established
terminology and categories for our own games. As Audiogames.net is the
face of the audio games community I feel it should use widely accepted
terminology anyone blind or sighted would understand.
Cheers!

I agree with Tom, thinking that the less confusing and more standard
classifications be used. They are accurate and more easily understood by
the average gamer, which is the audience you are aiming at.
