As for the mechanics, it's not so much exploration as shooting. Right now, there's no way to track asteroids or ships other than by being fired at by ships and blowing up either. As for where you're flying and how fast, you have to take your ques from stereo positioning. The developer is, however, aware of these issues. I'm not sure what he can do about it, because there seems to be a limit on the number of audio channels either on the iPhone or on the engine he's using. I'm not sure which.
Either way, as I said, just keep your left thumb or whatever within an inch and a half or two inches of the bottom left corner of the device while flying and you'll be fine. Trying the app is completely free, and as I said, he's putting in daily challenges, free ways to earn ErnCoins, so you can have access to the premium features if you play and save, and you start out with some number of them.
