orest- thanks for trying it out. i'm in the process now of tracking down a FreeBSD box that i can work from. the sourceforge guys took freebsd out of the list of machines on the compile farm there. of course being at berkeley i should be able to find a machine or two. we have a freebsd box here that serves NFS to the cluster... but i don't want to work from it.
