I think that is a separate, but related, discussion. Perhaps I'm wrong, but there doesn't seem to be a clear consensus about using GUIDs vs. FQDN vs. IPs vs. something else (again, someone correct me if I'm wrong). Maybe we should open that discussion again? One advantage to adding aliasing, like this patch tries to do, is that it doesn't require changing any other parts of the system. This is a fairly non-intrusive patch regarding code. Now, it's entirely possible that this will have more subtle ramifications elsewhere though.
