Hi, I tried doing the below steps. telnet for gmond is working and for gmetad is also working. However, there is no entry into the rrds directory. Also, I ran the xmllint command over the xml files generated in each case i.e gmond and gmetad and I got an error saying "parser error". I am attaching the error along with the gmond.xml and gmetad.xml files.
xmllint command ran over gmond.xml file. systst-zen-133:/var/opt/novell/zenworks/monitor/rrds # xmllint --valid --noout gmond.xml gmond.xml:1: parser error : Start tag expected, '<' not found Trying 164.99.157.133... ^ xmllint command ran over gmetad.xml file. systst-zen-133:/var/opt/novell/zenworks/monitor/rrds # xmllint --valid --noout gmetad.xml gmetad.xml:1: parser error : Start tag expected, '<' not found Trying 164.99.157.133... ^ Also, I have attached the xml files generated by the telnet command ran. Pls help me resolve this. It is probably best to debug one piece at a time. Here is my suggestion: 1) Start with gmond. Just start it up and don't worry about gmetad yet. You should be able to telnet to port 8649 on localhost and see a dump of all the xml data. If you don't see any metrics, then the problem could be with using multicast. In that cast, try a unicast configuration. 2) If gmond is OK, then start up gmetad. At this point, you should be able to telnet to port 8651 on localhost and get another dump of all the xml data. If you don't seen anything, that probably means that gmetad cannot connect to gmond for some reason. 3) If gmetad is reporting metrics, the next thing to check is if gmetad is regularly updating its rrd files. In your case, you should find the rrd files in /var/opt/novell/zenworks/monitor/rrds and they should get updated every 15 secs or so. If you don't see any files, it could mean there is some filesystem permission issue preventing gmetad from creating the rrd files. 4) Once the above things have been verified, try the web page again. If you don't see anything, it might mean there is a problem in the conf.php. (Perhaps it doesn't have right directory location for the rrd files, or maybe it can't find the rrdtool command.) Hope that helps. -- Rick Mohr Systems Developer Ohio Supercomputer Center
