Hi,

I had a similar problem and had to set a dial-up connection to get gmond working, otherwise it stays asking for a valid multicast-enabled interface.

You can set debug_level to 100 in gmond.conf and start it manually with su nobody -c '/usr/sbin/gmond' to see exactly what it's happening.
