As I understand ganglia - the multicast port of gmond.conf is only used for
groups of cluster nodes to share information using multicast. I never
noramlly change the default

gmetad opens an explicit port on the target node(s). I think that this is
called 'xml_port' in gmond.conf. I never normally change the default.

The think we do do is change the mcast_channel address in gmond.conf so that
each cluster has a unique value. This prevents cross-talk when we have
several clusters on the same ethernet switch.
