Ganglia has some features where it tries to tell you how many hosts are up, but its not reliable enough to be the source for pages, etc. And likewise, people have tried to add resource monitoring to nagios, but it doesn't work as well as ganglia does. For my cluster, I use both nagios and ganglia.
