I've had users request to get "their" machines into a view with only "their" stuff, as our ganglia install has extremely generic groupings.
I suppose it would be neat to have some kind of behavior in gmetad for designating virtual clusters, but the unicast hack works well enough that I don't consider it much of a problem. With a configuration management system in place, it's not too hard to shuffle stuff around as needed.
