I am attempting to configure Ganglia for performance metrics and
troubleshooting efforts in our environment. Because of this there are some
restrictions over which systems belong to which clusters so that the aggregate
data is meaningful. I am having issues in laying out my collector -> client ->
grid -> cluster architecture to support my requirements.
To simplify my issue for the question, I have three networks that do not
communicate with each other openly.
Network A has three systems.
- The main gmetad and web interface system.
- A gateway system (just a unix host with nic's on both networks) to
network B.
- A gateway system to network C.
My issue is that I need to have hosts in each of the three networks as part of
the same cluster. The gateway systems cannot be part of this cluster (they are
in a different cluster). I have experimented with things like ssh tunnels, but
found that the lack of udp transmission prevented all hosts from showing up in
the cluster. I've thought about running sub-collectors (gmetad) instances on
the gateway systems, but this caused the hosts in each network to be in their
own cluster and doesn't allow for useful metric aggregation.
Has anyone implemented a solution similar to this with network spanning for
clusters?
Nathan
