I have not really used this personally but I'm not sure whether this
package is still being maintained.  You might want to ping the Rocks
guys.

BTW, there is a Python re-write of gmetad in SVN trunk which supports
pluggable modules.  Brad has already written a plugin to do alerts.
Feel free to try it out if you want to, the code is available here:
