Hello Ganglia experts Ganglia shows the nodes on my cluster flipping between the up and down states randomly. The cluster has 24+2 nodes, but the problem happens even with only 3-4 nodes turned on.
On another cluster we have, with a dumb D-Link switch and Cluster Rocks, Gangla works beautifully! The gmond.conf and gmetad.conf on both clusters are very similar, and rely on multicast. On the problematic cluster I have a HP ProCurve 2900 48-G (48 ports). I read in another mailing list (Rocks Clusters) that this often happens on "smart" switches that need to have multicast turned on manually. So, trying to fix the problem, I enabled IGMP on the (single, default) VLAN. Then I also enabled "Forward with High Priority" on that VLAN. Those are the two obvious options documented on the switch "Multicast and Routing Guide". However, Ganglia continued to misbehave the same way, even after full cluster (and switch) reboots. I think all parameters in the switch configuration are default (e.g. spanning tree is turned off, auto-negotiation turned on, jumbo frames turned off, etc), except for the IGMP ones I mentioned above. Does anybody know what configuration parameters (or CLI commands) are required to make Ganglia work properly with the HP ProCurve 2900 switch?
