Summary:
While gmetad is running, whenever I issue the sync command it hangs.

Environment:
ganglia-gmetad-3.0.7-1
- 4 instances, each with their own rrd repository
- rrd's on local scsi disk
rrdtool-1.2.27-1
AIX 5300-08-03-0831

Notes:
Has anyone seen anything like this before? The system isn't overly taxed,
averaging:

Kernel 3.9 |## | Reads 2258 Rawin 0
User 2.5 |# | Writes 2518 Ttyout 467
Wait 32.4 |########## | Forks 0 Igets 0
Idle 61.2 |################## | Execs 0 Namei 2820

There is no paging being done at all. I believe the sync command should be
taking a snapshot of memory and writing that to disk, so the constant
(~3500/sec) reads by the gmetad processes shouldn't be putting me in a state of
lock. Unfortunately truss of the sync doesn't show anything useful. Data is
being sync'd at some point, as the state of the rrd's at system reboot is
stable and we don't lose any data. Other system operations which rely on a
manual sync (such as NIM, package management, etc.) all hang and fail.

Any thoughts?
