I have the same problem (Ganglia 3.1.2 and Solaris 10 -sparc and x86-) Sometimes telnet to gmond does not respond at all.

Solution is to bounce the head gmond, at which point hosts start reappearing in the web view. I should add that we have send_metadata_interval = 300 in all gmonds to allow for the recovery of static metrics when we bounce the head gmond. How do I go about troubleshooting this? When the website shows no hosts, telnetting to the head gmond tcp accept channel returns xml, but with no host metric information (just some meta data about the cluster).
