Any chance you can update that gmetad from 3.0.7 to 3.1.7?  At 1000
hosts, depending on how many metrics each host is collecting, you will
start to hit the scalability wall which can be mitigated by using
rrdcached.  Let's try to pinpoint whether the issue is because your
gmetad server is running in a VM though.

Anybody else running gmetad in a VM and have similar issues?
