Have you tried loading the result from convert in another image > viewer. Yes, I looked at it in xv. The image from convert said that a B/W graphic had 36 colors and was horrible. The one from netpbm correctly found 2 and was correctly displayed. I suspect that the part that sucks is my simple little image loader > based on the XPM library.
