The catalogue is great, but it sent me to an out-of-date mirror.

No, just update it to the version that lyx does rely on, which is
currently more recent than the one in the teTeX-1.07 release.
It would appear that Suse has fixed the problem, maybe with a beta
release of teTeX.
As things now stand, you will get bug reports like the one that started
this.
Maybe something in REQUIRED PACKAGES.
