Thanks for that, Bjorn. Much appreciated.

I've been working as a renewable energy consultant doing cost and performance modeling over the last ten years. Most clients don't want an R&D project but rather cost-effective, reliable energy. Low GHG emissions is an attractive feature but rarely in my experience the only driver. PV is very attractive in that regard as it's low maintenance, performance guarantees given site insolation are relatively simple, the generation curve often fits commercial site consumption patterns etc Some clients are prepared to take more of a punt with kit that might need more attention but which will perform within that operational envelope. The Spanner is looking interesting in that context.

Hello,

this is what I want to add to the Spanner discussion, although two weeks ago:

I worked for Spanner as a freelancer not long ago. We did projects with several
Spanner gasifiers connected to a bigger engine in order to allow higher
capacities, since the Spanner gasifiers make maximum 70 kWe. So I have
firsthand information.

In my opinion, the Spanner gasifier is not bad at all. They sold more than 750
of such units and the company still exists. Whom of you did better?

The restrictions regard the fuel wood properties are even less than I had
expected before I worked for them, since I know about downdraft gasification.
The need for dry wood for fixed bed downdraft gasification should not be new to
the community, isn?t it?

There are plenty of Spanner units in Germany that do more than 8000 h/year.
Some, but very few, even above 8400 h/year. Ask Spanner directly for reference.
But, and this has to be stated as well, operators that achieve such performance
levels are very dedicated to their systems 24/7.

Mit freundlichen Gr??en / with best regards

Hello,

I visited a Spanner a couple of years ago and the owner explained it is very
hands on!

Woodchip needs to be super dry and if you take one on you need to be an
experienced mechanic.

Not for the faint hearted!

Waiting for the Hargassner 60/20 to be released. Hopefully this will be a step
up.

Jess

Re Doug's comments below, I would be very interested to hear from anyone
with direct experience of Spanner gasifiers at customer sites operating
as CHP They appear to have sold a lot, they will provide customer
references and state that customers are using them up to 7000 hours a
year with tractable quantities of maintenance.

Hi Arnt,

Pleased you are still hanging on to our reducing interest in
gasification!! Are you retired yet(:-)

Thanks for the links which I finally managed to get open. Saw the Biomax
a few years ago and had connections to a School installation that never
did get to run it without a lot of trouble. Like always, it works if the
manufacturer is there to operate it. We have all had that experience.
Would be a good buy for all the ancillary equipment, if developing their
own system.

Best Regards,

Doug Williams.

Fluidyne.
