I gather the hopper lid is sealed on a down draft gasifier to keep oxygen under control. Is this correct? If I am using a dense fuel, as in small spaces between bits, will this be an issue? I would like to top feed the hopper for continual operation. Recognizing the limitations of small sized fuel, my thought was that there would be enough resistance to airflow. If need be I can put an auger into the hopper and otherwise keep the top closed (although, even in this configuration some oxygen would get in).
