You means "producer gas" = syngas + "N2". This is to say air
gasification produces producer gas, a poorer syngas...
I even did not realise that before....
In fact, here in France, I do not think people knows really the
differetnce between syngas and producer gas.
All presentations I see during my PhD program in french take term syngas
instead of producer gas, maybe this is also becasue syngas is the useful
components in producer gas, or because there is no french translation
for "producer gas".
So I can understand why jim do not want to change, because peoples who
want to buy his machine may not be specialist in gasification.
Personnally, I do not think it is very important whether we use
producer gas (poorer syngas) or syngas to describe the gas at the outlet
of air gasification.
We just need to show public the gas composition and its heat capacity
when we talk about different gasification processes.
Wish you all a excellent 2011.

Li Chen

Bruno,
Wow that really shows a difference that I hope Doug and the list can see, thanks.
This is one of the statements that leads to a misunderstanding, I believe. It is under "producer gas" saying;
Producer Gas is a generic term referring to:
Syngas: used as a fuel source or as an intermediate for the production of other chemicals.
While I agree that synthesis gas is a fuel or intermediate, the fact that Wiki lists producer gas as also "syngas" is, I believe, wrong. Producer gas is not synthesis gas. Nitrogen is the main element in producer gas with relatively smaller amounts of H and CO where synthesis gas has much higher energy level CO and H2 concentrations and low low N, if any.
Jim insists that his GEK is making "syngas" in all of his web communications that I see, taking advantage of and fostering a misconception and misrepresentation that a producer gas making machine (GEK) he is selling, will make "syngas". I've asked that he market with the correct term, but he refuses. I feel that this marketing use of "syngas" term is misleading in his machines capability as a gasifier. Synthesis gas making should be so easy.
I hope someone who contributes to Wiki will do some more digging to identifty the differences and references. None of the comments on the syngas page identified a difference between producer and syngas, yet synthesis gas clearly states how fuels can be synthesized...but does not describe producer gas as also synthesis gas. Perhaps others will see and help document more key differences.
The Wiki process to make a change is not one that I have navigated. The issue with the "syngas" term is, to date, the biggest disappointment I have had using Wiki.
