I've never been know as being quick or fast (except for the time when - oh wait - this is a family show) but it seems to me that you could get a better push off if you were in a three point stance like the track runners start in. Seems like standing - the way WRs usually do would be second and running in place - the worst - because you have to wait till your foot is down and then push off.
I believe it may have been a new wrinkle because I recall Demps doing the same thing.

I've never noticed it before, but I saw Harvin running in place prior to the snap during the SC game. I guess that is allowed since he was never flagged for it, but that might explain his "quickest first step" mentioned by Randy below.Randy----- Original Message -----From: PCGatorTo: GatornewsSent: Monday, November 17, 2008 8:47 PMSubject: [gatornews] Grading the Gators vs USC (East)-------------------------snip, snip, snip---------------------FINAL THOUGHTS
Percy Harvin has the quickest first step in college football today, Harvin goes from a stand still to full speed faster than the Road Runner, but he must be slowing down, it took him 13 seconds to run 80 yards to start the 3rd quarter. Damn, these guys a playing really really well right now, but this is no time to get the big head, stay focused on the prize. Next up the Citadel, to quote B A Barracus of the A-Team “I pity the fools”, hopefully the starters can be in street clothes by halftime.
OVERALL GRADE: A
