Not specific to SOS, but I have a problem with this line of thinking. If two teams have identical schedules with the same ranked and unranked teams, and Team F loses to an unranked team and Team O to a ranked team - the argument is that there is less shame in losing to a ranked (or higher ranked) team.
However, that also means that team F beat more (highly) ranked teams, because each have one loss and team F's was to an unranked team. So, isn't it also more impressive that Team F beat more ranked teams than Team O? The same analysis applies to home vs. away losses. If Team F loses its game at home, it also means that it won more road games - an equally impressive achievement. In short, these arguments and counter-arguments all cancel each other out - assuming both teams had equal strength of schedule. So, the real bottom line to me should be strength of schedule. Haven't heard too many talking heads opine on this point. FWIW, did anyone else notice that Urban ranked Ole Miss about 10 spots higher than anyone else, an act that probably moved Ole Miss into the top 25, thereby meaning that our loss was to a ranked team? -Zeb On Dec 9, 2008, at 8:55 AM, Gatornet Admin wrote: > And there you go...
