This is the first US feed-in-tariff for solar power in the US.

This has been done in Germany for years.

What it does is  Gainesville Regional Utilities will buy all the electricity produced by solar PV systems at a guaranteed rate for the next 20 years.  It will cost residents between 2-5% more on their monthly electricity, but it is cheaper for the community.  It costs less to administer and is more about being a leader in reusable energy than saving money for residents.

It is the first, but once it gets up and running, I have no doubt others will try.

I will leave my politics and personal views out of what I think about this, but our community leadership is pretty happy about it.

Kinda---I think it means people can sell solar power back to the utility, but I thought that existed elsewhere??

Last Thursday, Gainesville became the first city in the nation to get a solar feed-in tariff.
