I've read everything but Shane's comments and this is my take. First, yes I want homers reporting on the Gators. I feel Mike Bianchi is a homer and yet, when he has something negative to say it's much more tolerable because I know he's a Gator! The Miami Herald articles we get everyday would make me insane if I lived in Miami and that was all I had to read. That guy's always negative.
Second, I think Meyer was speaking of something that was probably not going to be said again in light of the fact that UF has now won 2 NCs under Meyer. He's a little ahead of Spurrier, who won his only after hiring Stoops to be his defensive coordinator. Stoops who went to OK and won one on his own. Anyway, I think Meyer's offense has spoken for itself to Shane's criticism. Third, I'm like Bill, I wish they'd get together over a beer and hash out their disagreement and keep us out of it. Importance: Low I recommend that everyone click through to the interview. I don't have a problem with Shane's arguments. They seem well thought out and, for the most part, accurate. Where I think that Shane is mistaken is that he seems to have a bit of Volshiemers about the Spurrier era. The Gators didn't step on every team - just like last year, we always seemed to let a team hang around (or beat us) that objectively should not have done so. Mississippi State on Thursday night, anyone? I also think that the hiring of Loeffler is a tacit admission that some of Shane's points are correct. Stange that the criticism of Shane should come right after a Spring season where the impact of Loeffler on our QBs has been one of the noteworthy developments (see Andreu's article). As good we are and will be, there is always room for improvement. UMIII knows that.
