No, seriously. Google "hurricanes of 1950", and you'll find that Hurricane Love
made landfall in (I think the name of it is) Levy County which is on the gulf
side of Florida north of Tampa. It made landfall on Oct 20th sometime in the
late afternoon / early evening, and I was born just after midnight on the
21st.. FORTUNATELY, my parents already had my name picked out if I was a boy,
and even though the circumstances (hurricane) tempted them, they decided to
stick with Randall David. I'm glad they did.

Does ALMOST being named after someone (or someTHING) count? I
was born in Oct. of 1950 (Leon remembers that year well - he was dating Paula)
and Hurricane Love (yep! that was it's name - look it up!) made landfall just
north of Tampa a few hours before I was born. I was ALMOST named "Harry Kane
Lyons". ;-)

I had a boyfriend named Michael Shane [last name
withheld to protect the not-so-innocent] in high school. He was also named for
Alan Ladd's Shane. He was born the year after the movie came out so it was a
pretty timely decision.

My take is that Meyer is basically saying that as a former player you can
either be an "objective journalist" (and my personal feelings are that Shane
might have crossed that line a time or two with some of his criticisms and made
it personal) or someone who is a Gator "cheerleader". I think it makes sense
that the ones you want to have on the sidelines, in the locker room, etc., are
the latter.
I love Shane - I even named my firstborn after him. But not all of his comments
appeared in that article. And even some of his criticisms that were valid
weren't exactly presented in a way that put our coaching staff in a very good
light. If I talked about someone in public the way he did about Meyer and staff
I wouldn't expect to be welcomed into their home.

I don't have a problem with Shane's arguments. They seem well thought out and,
for the most part, accurate.
Where I think that Shane is mistaken is that he seems to have a bit of
Volshiemers about the Spurrier era. The Gators didn't step on every team - just
