Patchan was the # 1 OL in the state of FL his senior year and the # 3 LT nationally. He has some great credentials. His big problem has been staying healthy and avoiding accidents and mishaps. He contracted mononeucleosis in the summer of his freshman year and lost 35 lbs. He then got shot in the shoulder in a freaky situation at a park in Tampa. This year just before spring practice, he had a motor scooter accident where he banged up his knee and missed most of the spring. He is exceptionally quick and has very long arms for LT. He was so outstanding in the brief time he was available during the spring that Coaches Addazio and Meyer are considering moving 6' 6" 347 lb Carl Johnson inside to LG, because when Patchan 6'7" 265 lbs was able to get on the field, he was a beast. They expect him to stay healthy, avoid mishaps and get in the weight room over the summer and try to regain much of those 35 lbs he lost. Just another day in paradise......... :-)

I realize there is big difference between HS and college, but it is not like he is starting from scratch. Randy Platt aka "PCGator" aka "The Armchair Quarterback" aka "The Other Randy" Later Gators! Jeff Demps and Brandon James will line up in the backfield and at receiver in an effort to replace Percy Harvin.>> Why would Rainey only be a RB while the other two play the Harvey position? <<Meyer said offensive tackle Matt Patchan had such a good spring that he could win a starting job if he continues to develop during fall drills. >> They sure are sky high about a guy (Patchan) that has hardly played OL. Maybe Patchan is that incredible at everything he does? I hear Patchan is a great guy - but he just moved to OL and then was hurt most of the spring. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ GATORS: ONE VOICE ON SATURDAY - NO VOICE ON SUNDAY! 1996 National Football Champions | 2006 National Basketball Champions 2006 National Football Champions | 2007 National Basketball Champions 2008 National Football Champions | Three Heisman Trophy winners: Steve Spurrier (1966), Danny Wuerffel (1996), Tim Tebow (2007) - Visit our website at www.gatornet.us -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
