This is very simple. Meyer doesn't want an undefeated season as a goal. His first goal is to beat Charleston Southern. The long term team goal is to make it to the SEC championship game. Once that goal has been attained the goal changes to win national championship in the BCS bowl.
The team goals are supposed to be attainable. Undefeated season and win a national championship are dreams but not goals. It's like eating an elephant. Seems pretty difficult given the enormity of the task. Not so tough one bite at a time. We're going to try to win every game, but not in the first game of the season, one game at a time.
