We are what we are and it is not going to change anytime soon. UM has always said that his offense is designed by the personnel and currently that means QB, RB, OL, and WR in that order. The Gators are a ball control offense. The Gators will throw if they have too, but are content to grind it out and rely on their defense, special teams and field position. Is that style of play good enough to win the SEC and/or the MNC yes, will it remains to be seen. The good news is that if doesn't, you get to say I told you so. The bad news is, if you keep worrying so much you are going to give yourself an ulcer or worse. And yes, I am getting to old for this $h1t as well, which is why I accept what the Gators for what they are. But I don't think that LSU is on par with Alabama (SECCG) and whoever we play in the national championship. I think that LSU is probably a top 25 team - and we could probably beat most top 25 teams like we did against LSU. It is USC, Alabama, Texas - our last two games - that I doubt we could beat with a conservative offense. If you have all these weapons, if you need all these weapons, - why would you not practice using all these weapons in a game? If you are using these weapons - it gives opposing defenses fits - since they have no clue where you will strike next and how. Second - to run plays well in practice is one thing. To run plays well in a game is another thing. Running a play in a big game which you have experience runing in previous games is a third thing. Maybe this is my problem. After the FSU game many years ago - when we were leading by 28 points going into the 4th quarter - I am not even comfortable with a 28 point lead. We saw in the LSU - Georgia game how many points these two teams can put up in an instance. Yes our defense is awesome and probably #1. But still all it takes is one lucky play for 7 points. At the end of the LSU - Georgia game - we saw a lot of lucky plays for a lot of points. Between now and Jan 7th the only thing that matters is to survive and advance, win anyway you can. When ranked #1, margin of victory is virtually irrelevant. Staying undefeated is the key. With our defense, I don't believe there is a game between now and then that we couldn't win by simply relying on our offensive line and running backs. Take last Saturday night, we absolutely dominated LSU in every way but the scoreboard. LSU stacked the box, knowing what was coming, yet Florida imposed their will upon LSU. Finesse team, my a$%, on Saturday we played smash mouth football as well as anybody ever has. Furthermore, despite all the rhetoric, just because we haven't demonstrated a vertical passing game, doesn't mean we don't have one, it just means we haven't had to show it. To paraphrase Quigley, I said I didn't have much use for a passing game, I didn't say I didn't know how to use the passing game. With this defense, arguably one of the best the Gators have ever produced, the offense can be very conservative and win.
